Mobility Analytics: Pioneering Insights in 5G Networks
Overview
Mobility Analytics is an innovative project designed to harness the full potential of 5G networks by providing profound insights into mobility patterns. This technology answers critical questions such as "why," "when," "what," and "how long" in the context of user mobility, creating new value opportunities for network operators and service providers. Originating during the COVID-19 pandemic as a tool for contact tracing, Mobility Analytics has evolved into a comprehensive solution that enhances understanding of human movement and interaction within networked environments.
The project has garnered substantial financial support, securing a series of funding grants totaling nearly USD 1 million. These include:
- 2021: IAF USD 100K
- 2021: AI Initiative Grant USD 100K
- 2022: RTG USD 660K
- 2022: TAQDAM USD 40K
- 2023: SDAIA-KAUST CoE USD 53K
- 2024: Google Seed Grant USD 20K
With a 100% success rate in securing grants, the project’s financial backing underscores its innovative approach and potential impact.
Mobility Analytics played a crucial role in forging Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between KAUST, STC, and TAWAL, a company owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). It was showcased alongside TAWAL during LEAP’24 and demonstrated to a high-profile US delegation hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), as well as directly to the MCIT minister. The project’s growth trajectory has been integrated into a breakthrough proposal submitted to the Research, Development, and Innovation Authority (RDIA) in collaboration with STC and TAWAL.
As a testament to its success and potential, Mobility Analytics has spun off into a standalone entity, recently securing USD 800K in funding from the National Technology Development Program (NTDP). The initiative has been selected by the National Technology Initiative (NTI) to be part of a permanent technology showcase in the King Abdullah Road Technology Park (KRTP) and will be presented by RDIA during the O-RAN Forum in May 2024. This remarkable journey from a pandemic response tool to a key player in the 5G landscape exemplifies the transformative power of innovation in addressing modern challenges and opportunities.
