About
We are delighted to congratulate Dr. Yuchen Zhang (Zack), Postdoctoral Researcher at the Information Science Lab, CEMSE, KAUST under the supervision of Prof. Tareq Al-Naffouri, on being awarded the #KAUST Global Fellowship (Cohort 2025) for his project “Integrated Mobile Positioning and Communication towards 6G.”
The KAUST Global Fellowship is one of the University’s most prestigious programs, supporting outstanding early-career researchers in pursuing independent, high-impact projects. Fellows are provided with world-class facilities, assured research funding, and strong mentorship for up to 3 years to advance transformative research at KAUST and beyond.
Dr. Zhang’s project tackles a critical gap for 6G networks: enabling high-accuracy positioning alongside ultra-reliable, high-speed communications. Accurate positioning is essential for applications such as autonomous driving, AR/VR, and smart city infrastructure, yet remains limited in environments where GNSS struggles. His research on Integrated Mobile Positioning and Communication (IMPACT) will address key challenges, including balancing trade-offs between positioning and communication, exploiting new propagation features and platforms, and ensuring security and privacy.
By advancing seamless integration between positioning and communication, this work will contribute to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, empowering future smart cities, enhanced tourism, and more efficient logistics.
Congratulations to Dr. Zhang on this prestigious recognition — we look forward to the impact of his fellowship research!
